About Sam

Sam Tall is an applied-improvisation instructor with Railway City Improv, teaching in-person courses that put “Yes, And” to work building spontaneous social reasoning and cognitive elasticity. He is a founding member of London’s Shut The Front Door Improv, performing with it through its early years — from the 2013 London Fringe Festival to fundraisers and charity shows — and later with Off The Hinges Improv. He is also the instructor who taught founder Bryan Bakker’s daughters as teenagers — a big part of why Railway City Improv exists.

Known professionally as Sam Vander Schelde, MSW, RSW, he is a registered social worker and thanatologist who co-founded This Thing Called Grief, a London, Ontario practice supporting individuals, couples and families through grief, loss, trauma and life’s most difficult transitions — with a particular interest in fathers, men and caregivers. He brings the same conviction to both rooms: that people grow when they feel seen, heard and understood.
